With the advancement in material technology and emergence of new materials like Kevlar, soldiers are now better protected from traumaticand lethalbrain injury. Earlier in 2003, new Advanced Combat Helmet were rolled out for the armed forces. The new helmets are lighter and narrower in silhouette and offers even better, harder-sided protection from ballistic projectiles, from bullets to shrapnel, and shell fragments. Beyond that the new helmets had front opening that can accommodate either sunglasses or goggles, which deflect sandstorms in desert fighting, or heavy rains and winds. Light, tough and reliable, Kevlar material has endless applications and are currently widely used for ground army troops. In March 2017, the US Army officials revealed new combat helmet that is lighter by up to 24% compared to the traditional Advanced Combat Helmet. The Advanced Combat Helmet Generation II has similar looks to the legacy ACH, but made from polyethylene instead of Kevlar. An extra-large legacy helmet weighs 3.88 pounds, whereas an extra-large Gen II helmet weighs 2.94 pounds. Soldiers usually wear helmets in the field anywhere from 12 to 18 hours and eventually feels fatigue and stress. With the development of these new materials, the weight can be significantly reduced without changing the protection standards.

The global military expenditure experienced an increase of 1.1% from 2016 to reach USD 1,739 billion in 2017. The main reason for this growth in expenditure being the conflicts among various countries and various security threats imposed externally and internally, the increasing terrorism, the quests of some nations for universal dominance, several border security issues, the volatile relations among the nations, and various technological advancements in the defense field.

In January 2017, the Indian Army placed an order for 158,000 Kevlar Helmets from MKU Industries based in Kanpur (India) for its armed troops worth of about USD 25 million. As of July 2018, the Indian Army received the first lot of 7,500 high-tech ballistic helmets. Many of these helmets are equipped with a communication device. Two-thirds of the helmets received will be given to soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir border and China Border.

The United States has the largest military strength in terms of personnel and aircraft fleet. The country is also the global leader and accounts for a significant chunk of the global defense spending. In August 2017, the US Army disclosed the companies that are likely to compete in its Air Soldier Common Helmet-Mounted Display (CHMD) requirement. The units will be used to support all Army Rotary Wing platforms (except the AH-64D). Three of the companies competing for the contract are BAE Systems, Thales Group, and Elbit Systems. The display will be integrated onto a Rotary Wing Helmet (RWH) HGU-56/P modified, to include a magnetic head tracker and other head borne Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE). The army plans to acquire about 1825 such helmets over a period of five year.
